    Project Brief

    Description of the Project

The design of Amodernary’s new showroom at Apex SouthPark transforms a 7,800-square-foot cold, dark shell into a luxury furniture space that embodies the brand’s blend of comfort and luxury. The showroom showcases carefully curated furniture, lighting, and accessories from over 60 global manufacturers, primarily from Italy, Spain, and Germany.

The design emphasizes a modern, minimalistic aesthetic that enhances the visual appeal of the products while creating an inviting and immersive customer experience. Strategic lighting and thoughtful material choices highlight the quality and craftsmanship of the furnishings.

The layout encourages fluid movement through the space, with seating areas integrated throughout to invite customers to sit, relax, and fully experience the comfort of the furniture. These spaces also facilitate personalized consultations, aligning with CEO Carlos Fuller’s focus on understanding clients' needs.

This showroom serves not just as a retail space but as the headquarters for Amodernary Furniture Designs, offering a unique experience that stands out in SouthPark and the greater Charlotte area. It’s a destination where design, comfort, and luxury converge.

    Design Program and Conceptual Approach

The primary objective of the design was to create an environment that seamlessly integrates the display of high-end furniture, lighting, and accessories with a customer experience that is both engaging and educational. The space needed to reflect Amodernary’s modern aesthetic while providing a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for clients to explore and interact with the products.

Key elements of the design include a minimalistic, modern aesthetic that aligns with the quality and craftsmanship of the curated furnishings, sourced from over 60 global manufacturers, primarily from Italy, Spain, and Germany. The showroom layout was carefully considered to encourage intuitive movement through the space, allowing clients to experience the furniture in a way that feels natural and relaxed.

Addressing the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence

This project addresses several components of the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence, particularly in terms of Design for Well-being, Design for Integration, and Design for Resources.

    1. Design for Well-being: Central to the design approach was the creation of a space that enhances the well-being of its occupants. The integration of natural materials, strategic lighting, and thoughtfully designed seating areas contributes to a warm and inviting atmosphere. These elements not only create a visually pleasing environment but also support a sense of comfort and relaxation, which is essential for clients making significant purchasing decisions. The design also emphasizes the importance of physical comfort, with multiple seating areas that encourage clients to sit and experience the furniture, aligning with the brand’s emphasis on comfort as a key component of luxury.
    2. Design for Integration: The project’s success lies in the seamless integration of form and function. The design solution was developed in close collaboration with the client, ensuring that the space not only meets the aesthetic goals but also supports the operational needs of the showroom. This holistic approach to design integrates the retail experience with the brand’s identity, creating a cohesive and immersive environment that enhances both the client experience and the functionality of the space.
    3. Design for Resources: Sustainability was considered in material selection and the use of space. By repurposing an existing shell and selecting durable, high-quality materials, the design supports long-term use and minimizes environmental impact. The careful curation of materials also reflects the client’s commitment to quality, aligning with the overall brand ethos.

In conclusion, the design of Amodernary’s new showroom is a manifestation of the brand’s commitment to luxury and comfort, realized through a thoughtful, integrated approach that addresses key components of the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence. The result is a space that not only serves its functional purpose but also elevates the customer experience, setting a new standard for retail design in the region.
